Charles Abud, originally from Argentina, immigrated to the United States with his family when he was 13 years old. By that time, soccer was in his blood. Since then, he has been very involved in Michigan soccer – first as a player, then as a coach, an administrator, and advocate of the game. He coached for various soccer teams including the Detroit Kickers, Berry School-Concord of Charlevoix, and Wolverine Soccer Club. Chuck was a founding member of the Michigan Youth Soccer Association (a prelude to MSYSA) back in 1946. He served as President of MYSA for four years, then as commissioner for MYSA for another 2 years. As President of Michigan Youth Soccer Association, he was instrumental in organizing the Annual Soccer Field Day – a soccer event dedicated to Michigan youth soccer players. Chuck says he loves soccer for kids because it teaches them a healthy lifestyle and concept of teamwork, and mostly because it is a lot of fun! |

Bill Thiess, originally from Illinois, moved to Michigan in 1967 to attend the University of Detroit. In Illinois, he played high school soccer and grew to love the game. He began volunteering when his son’s soccer team needed a coach. Since then, he has coached and served on the board of directors for the Plymouth Soccer Club and Saline Area Soccer Association in numerous capacities including president, director of coaching, and premier league representative. Bill also was a long time member of the MSYSA and MSPSP Board of Directors as the vice chairman for both organizations. As a coach Bill earned his USSF “C” license, as a parent he received the MSYSA Parent of the Year Award, and as referee he received USSF and Michigan High School Athletic Association certification. He loves soccer for himself and the kids because of the physical and mental demands. |

Del Zimmerman was born and raised in Saginaw, Michigan. He first got involved in youth soccer with the Saginaw Township Soccer Association when he volunteered to coach his daughters’ soccer teams in 1986. He has held numerous positions within STSA including coach, age group coordinator, treasurer, and President. Additionally, he served on the MSYSA Board of Directors for many years as the North Central District Commissioner, Vice President, and President. Del has been involved in several big soccer projects, most notably the construction of the Saginaw Township Soccer Complex and the 2012 Regional Championships Local Organizing Committee. He loves soccer for young kids because it helps build confidence and character, and because it encourages the idea of teamwork. |
