From the MSYSA Executive Director
Here are some common questions I receive at the MSYSA State Office:
How do I register?
How do I become an MSYSA member league?
What are the benefits of playing in MSYSA?
What are the fees?
What is my commitment if I am a player or parent of a player?
How do I register?
If you are a player or parent of a player you can contact a local league or club that is affiliated with MSYSA and register directly through the league. The leagues and their member clubs have different fee structures. However, part of your registration fee comes to us here at MSYSA ($8.75 per player per year). This fee is normally paid in the Fall for the seasonal year (Fall and Spring). If the fee is paid in the fall your league or club does not pay it again in the Spring. If you did not play in the Fall, then $8.75 of your registration will be paid to MSYSA in the Spring by your league/club/association. The fee provides you with secondary medical insurance coverage for the year should you be insured.
How do I become an MSYSA member league?
Do you have 100 players or more composing 4 or more teams playing within a divisional age group that compete against one another? If you do, you can proceed with filling out a MSYSA League Affiliation Form. Submit the MSYSA League Affiliation Request form and the MSYSA League Affiliation form with check for $50 made out to MSYSA. The check for $50 is the the annual fee per year for your league to be a member of MSYSA. Your new league will also need to submit a current set of bylaws. The bylaws of your new league may be more stringent that those of MSYSA but they may not be less stringent.
Once you have submitted these items you will nedd to forward all of the above information to the MSYSA State Office. The District Commissioner for your area (there are 5 districts) will review your application. Once your application has been reviewed the District Commissioner will present to the MSYSA Board of Directors a request to affiliate your league as a MSYSA member league. If approved, your league will then be ready to start registering players.Your league will be contacted by the MSYSA State Office to review registration proceedures.
All registration materials are available via the MSYSA website
www.michiganyouthsoccer.org. Late fees begin if we fail to receive payment from your league and data by the registration deadlines.
Your league can calculate registration fees as follows:
$8.75x # of players
$6.00x # of team officials (Team Officials = coaches, assistant coaches, managers, trainers, etc.)
In the Fall, your league will pay for new players and team officials. Along with your check, make sure you have the League Registration form which your league will use to indicate players by age group and sex. The League Registration form will help you calculate what is due to the MSYSA.
Failure to complete the steps outlined above could result in your players not being registered with MSYSA, additional late fees, lack of insurance for your players and officials and loss of voting rights. Do your part to make sure things are done correctly. If at any point during the process you have questions contact the MSYSA State Office. Our staff is here to work for your league.

What are the benefits of playing in MSYSA?There are many benefits of membership in MSYSA. A few include
- State Office and full time staff to assist you Monday through Friday with any questions, concerns, suggestions, ideas and even a few complaints when the need arises.
- Player and Coach Education programs

What are the fees?
$8.75 per player and $6.00 per official registration fees which is normally paid in the Fall unless your league joins during the Spring. Individual parents or players pay the league or club and the member league pays MSYSA the fees.
What is my commitment if I am a player or parent of a player?
Commitment to a certain team or club or even a league is something that comes up every year especially between the Fall and Spring seasons. Please know in advance that when yuou sign up to participate in the sport of soccer through one of our member leagues you are making a commitment for a seasonal year. The seasonal year includes the Fall of a given year and the Spring of the year immediately following. Mid-year transfers are more often denied than granted because of this rule. MSYSA expects you or your child to play on that team for the full seasonal year. When you sign up in the Fall you agreee to this commitment. Releases are guaranteed if you are unhappy with a team, training, coaching, commitment, etc. transfers are not guarnateed. Certainly, mitigating circumstances sometimes arise that require a transfer. These circumstances include a team that disbands, or a player moving from the area. However, more often than not the requests for transfers are based on reasons that are not valid and do not require a transfer. MSYSA encourages each player parent to investigate in great detail the team that your son or daughter will be plating for in the FAll as this will be the team you play on for the upcoming seasonal year. You are committed to a team and league until June 15th. After June 15th if you are unhappy with a coach, team or just looking a something different nothing can stop you from playing elsewhere. Once yuou commit to a team for the Fall season you are committed to a team for the full seasonal year. Do your homework so at midyear you know you made the correct decision. If you are in need of release or transfer forms they are available on our website www.michiganyouthsoccer.org or you can contact the MSYSA State Office. If you have further questions regarding releases and transfers that have not been answered here please feel free to contact the State Office at ((734) 459-6220 and we will be happy to assist you.
The Michigan State Youth Soccer Association is here for you, our members. If I can be of assistance in helping to clarify the questions that are frequently asked feel free to contact us at the State Office.
