It’s official – an exciting new chapter in youth soccer is on the horizon. The National 1 League is coming, bringing a new level of competition and opportunity for clubs across the country.

Michigan State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA) is proud to serve as the Midwest District 5 operator for the National 1 League, covering Michigan and Northern Indiana. As a leader in youth soccer administration, MSYSA remain committed to delivering professionally managed, high-quality programming for its members.

The National 1 League – formerly referred to as “NewComp” – is a top-tier, team-based youth soccer league that unites USYS National League and US Club Soccer National Premier League platforms under one structure. This collaboration creates a streamlined and highly competitive environment for elite teams nationwide.

The league is set to officially launch in the 2026-2027 season, with its inaugural postseason competition scheduled for summer 2027.

Pathway to Participation

Applications for the Fall 2026 season will be opening soon. Clubs are encouraged to stay tuned to MSYSA’s website and social media channels for the latest updates and deadlines.

Clubs with experience competing in high-level leagues will have the strongest pathway for inclusion. This includes participation in:

  • National League (club-based or team-based)
  • National Academy League (NAL)
  • ECNL Regional League (ECNL RL)
  • MSPSP Great Lakes Premier League
  • Directors Academy Program

When applying, clubs should be prepared to provide detailed information such as:

  • Team performance in current and prior leagues
  • Tournament history at major state, regional, or national events (e.g., State Cup, Nationals)
  • Participation and results in National League Cup and Winter Events, if applicable

This information will assist MSYSA in evaluating team applications and ensuring a competitive league structure.

Leadership and Support

For questions or to express early interest in the National 1 League, clubs are encouraged to reach out to Cara Hilliard, MSYSA National 1 League Assistant. Cara brings extensive experience in league operations, registration systems, and member services, along with a background as both a youth and collegiate player.

MSYSA looks forward to supporting clubs throughout this process and building a strong foundation for the National 1 League in the Midwest region.

For more updates, continue to check back on the MSYSA website and follow along on social media as additional details become available.
