Nationals Union 10G Academy captured the 2026 USYS U16 Girls Super Group National Championship, defeating the South Texas representative 2-1 in the championship match to complete an unforgettable run on the national stage.
After earning their place at the National Championships by winning the Fall 2025 Michigan State Cup, Nationals proved to be one of the top teams in the country throughout the tournament. The Michigan side opened competition with a perfect 3-0-0 record in group play, outscoring its opponents 14-2 to secure the top spot in the bracket and advance to the knockout rounds.
The quarterfinals tested the team’s resilience. Facing the Utah rep, Nationals battled to a 2-2 draw through regulation before keeping its composure in a penalty shootout. The team converted when it mattered most, earning a dramatic 4-3 victory on penalty kicks to advance to the national semifinals.
Momentum continued into the semifinal round, where Nationals delivered another complete performance with a 2-0 victory over the Southern California representative. The shutout win secured a place in the National Championship match and guaranteed Michigan would compete for a national title.
In the championship match, Nationals faced the South Texas rep with the U16 Girls Super Group National Championship on the line. The Michigan champions once again rose to the occasion, battling to a hard-fought 2-1 victory to bring the national title back to Michigan.
The championship is the culmination of a season defined by commitment, teamwork, and excellence.
