From the opening whistle, both teams battled for possession and worked to create attacking opportunities. Athletic SC and TBAYS each had chances to break through, but strong defensive efforts kept the match scoreless throughout the first half and into the second.
The deciding moment came in the 66th minute when TBAYS earned a corner kick. The delivery found the head of a TBAYS player, who directed the ball into the net to give them a crucial 1-0 lead. With the championship on the line, TBAYS remained composed and held off Athletic SC’s efforts to find an equalizer, protecting the advantage through the final whistle.
Adding to the accomplishment, TBAYS competed without its regular goalkeeper, requiring a field player to step into the role for the championship match. The team’s ability to secure a shutout and capture the State Cup title under those circumstances made the victory even more impreswsive.
