Holland Rovers 2011B Red emerged victorious in one of the most thrilling matches of the 2026 MSYSA State Cup Finals, defeating Nationals Macomb 11B Black 4-3 in overtime to claim the U15 Boys Premier Championship.
The scoring began early when Holland Rovers earned a free kick just seven minutes into the match. The ensuing strike from distance found the back of the net, giving Rovers a 1-0 lead. Both teams continued to battle throughout the remainder of the first half, but strong defensive play kept the score unchanged heading into halftime.
Nationals found an equalizer 15 minutes into the second half when a long ball split the Rovers’ defense. After a player rounded the goalkeeper, a teammate finished the opportunity to level the match at 1-1.
Nationals responded 5 minutes later by taking the lead. A ball played wide led to a dangerous cross into the penalty area, where a Macomb player rose to head home and make it 2-1. Five minutes after that, Holland answered with a long ball that sailed over the defense. Following a rough clearance attempt, a Rovers attacker capitalized on the opportunity and finished easily to level the match at 2-2.
The drama intensified in the closing stages of regulation. In the 73rd minute, Nationals drove down the flank and finished off the attack to take a 3-2 lead. Just two minutes later, Rovers answered once again, converting a penalty kick to draw level at 3-3.
Moments later, Nationals Macomb was reduced to 10 players after receiving a red card, setting the stage for overtime.
The championship-winning moment arrived 7 minutes into the first overtime period. Holland Rovers earned another dangerous free kick and made the most of the opportunity, scoring to take a 4-3 lead. Rovers held firm for the remainder of overtime to secure the dramatic victory and complete an unforgettable final.
With the 4-3 overtime win, Holland Rovers 2011B Red was crowned the 2026 MSYSA State Cup U15 Boys Premier Champion. The championship also earns Holland Rovers a place at the Great Lakes Presidents Cup, where they will represent Michigan against top teams from across the region.
