Michigan Rangers FC 09B Elite claimed the 2026 MSYSA State Cup U17 Boys Elite Championship in dramatic fashion, defeating Midland Fusion 09 Green in a penalty shootout after an intense 1-1 battle that required regulation, overtime, and nine rounds of penalties to determine a winner.
Midland broke the deadlock in the 28th minute following a corner kick opportunity. After an initial clearance failed to fully relieve the pressure, Fusion capitalized on the loose ball with a low-driven shot that found its way into the back of the net, giving Midland a 1-0 lead.
The match remained tightly contested as both teams searched for the next breakthrough. Midland carried its one-goal advantage deep into the second half, but Michigan Rangers continued to press and were rewarded in the closing moments of regulation. In the 89th minute, Rangers converted on a corner kick opportunity to level the score at 1-1 and send the championship match into overtime.
Neither side could find a winner during the overtime periods despite several promising attacks and strong defensive efforts. With the score still tied, the State Cup title came down to penalty kicks.
